| Winner of the "Best Workboat" and "Best Engine Room" awards at the 2007 Victoria Classic Boat Show. "Viking Mariner" presents an opportunity to own a part of our rich West Coast workboat heritage. Professional seafarers know the superb sea keeping qualities of this vessel in storm force weather, or worse, conditions. Their very lives depended upon it. A vessel such as "Viking Mariner" is therefore ideal for our cruising waters. An ideal blend of sea worthiness, purposeful good looks, and character that simply cannot be duplicated in a modern yacht.
Launched in Ladner, BC in 1955 and christened "Mar Brothers" she began her professional life as a drum seiner on the waters of the inside and outside coasts of Vancouver Island. A renowned skipper once referred to her as: "one of the best sea boats I ever skippered". She was purchased by the former owners in 2001, and the refit and restoration for a life of pleasure began.
"Viking Mariner's" 2001 - 2007 extensive refit and restoration faithfully maintained the lines of the original design. The refit and restoration was assisted by certified professionals and spared no expense. Pretty much everything on the boat was renewed, rebuilt, or replaced including: new decks, frames, bulwarks, fasteners received extensive work, engine rebuild, new electrical/wiring, new hydraulics, and so much more.
"Viking Mariner's" refit and restoration is highly documented with a resume that contains virtually all receipts along with a photo library showing each stage of the work. A survey from 2007 is also available.
The current owner is a certified wooden boat "nut" having had numerous wooden classics under his charge over the years. He knows quality workmanship when he sees it and will avail himself to a serious buyer. The award winning "Viking Mariner" is lying in Sidney, BC and available to view by appointment only. Economical moorage is also available. |
